Baby Ezekiel's Heart

Donation protected
For the last nine months, Brian and Lisa Smelek from Houston, Texas,  have been eagerly anticipating the birth of their first son Ezekiel. On July 7th, 2018, with his nursery decorated and stocked with diapers, onesies, and his older sister's crib, little Zeke was born. Unfortunately, he wouldn't spend a night in that carefully prepared room at home.
When he was born, Zeke wasn't breathing. He was stabilized at a medical center in Northwest Houston, but doctors quickly realized that his condition needed more urgent care; he was flown into the children's hospital in downtown Houston. After weeks of testing, it was determined that Zeke suffers from the very rare Uhl's Anomaly, a heart condition that affects the right ventricle.
In Zeke's case, the wall of the right ventricle lacks the muscle tissue to pump blood, leading to a swelling of the heart.  He is currently unable to breathe on his own. The goal of treatment currently is to support his respiratory system until he can breathe independently and can finally go home to the nursery his family so lovingly prepared for him months ago.
The journey won't be over then, however. Ezekiel and his family will have to deal with heart medication, doctor's visits, and potential surgeries for years to come. He may have to bypass his right ventricle completely or become a transplant candidate to avoid complete heart failure. The future for Zeke is largely uncertain, but we do know one thing; the medical costs are going to be astronomical.  Without some help, Brian and Lisa cannot afford the hundreds of thousands of dollars that have already accumulated.  As a student minister and a nurse, for years Zeke's parents have served others in their respective fields. Now, we're asking you to give something back to them to help offset the medical costs for their baby.  Help them focus on bringing their child home, not the countless bills that will be awaiting them there.
