Most of us think of Thanksgiving as a time to be thankful for friends and family and all the things that we hold dear. This year was a tragic Thanksgiving for the Collins/Merritt Family of Cape Charles Virginia, while most of us are sitting around our Thanksgiving feasts, they were mourning the loss of their youngest child, Wyatt Lee Merritt, 5 months old.
As a mother myself I cannot imagine their pain as they face every parents greatest fear, the premature death of their child. You see as parents we should never have to bury our children, they should out live us. I am reaching out to family and friends nearby and afar to help this family in their time of need.
We are unsure what their needs are at this point, but we know that a memorial service to celebrate this precious baby's life will be a big part of helping the family heal and celebrate Baby Wyatt's time shared with us. Our goal is to offset some of the family's financial burdens while they mourn this tragedy.
Many friends and coworkers have reached out to me asking how they could help; we wanted to do something for the family that would ease some of the burden while respecting their privacy.
All gifts of love made on Baby Wyatt's behalf will go directly to the family to assist with memorial expenses, time away from work etc.
I want to thank you in advance for your generosity and kindness to this family.
Warm regards,
Susan Kellam,
Close friend of the Family
