I am Julianne Lowe Hamstrom and my nephew, Cooper, was born on May 5, 2016, but in Japan. My brother, the fourth in line of six children, is a military service member, stationed in Japan. He and his wife have been there over a year now and welcomed their bundle of joy a few days ago (Japan time).
Everything had been fine until May 3rd when Hailey's ultrasound showed some fluid in Cooper's brain that was above normal. After delivering him, measurements were taken and multiple tests including MRI, CT Scan and other evaluations helped the doctors to determine Cooper has Hydrocephalus. Long story short, Japan and the US bases in Japan are not equipped to handle the problem for Cooper and they are most likely going to send him back to the USA immediately. As I am putting this together right now, they are in the process, in Japan, of getting an emergency passport and birth certificate so they can board the Military C-130 "Hospital in the sky" to fly them back to San Diego. We are hoping they will be here by Sunday.
Cooper will need, at a bare minimum, brain surgery to put a shunt in, if not multiple surgeries in his life time. Immediately, he will most likely have a shunt placed in his brain to help drain the fluid. I am setting up this Go Fund because, while although the military will be flying them back here, they are leaving everything they own in Japan. They will be going straight from the hospital in Tokyo to the closest base in California. They will have nothing but what they originally took to the hospital and will need to purchase all the necessities once here. They will be in need of everything; clothes, toiletries everything baby related as Cooper recovers from surgery and even a car.
If you would please donate anything to my adorable little nephew, this will help cover the cost of any additional travel expenses, items they will need right when they get here as well as starting a health fund for baby Cooper. Spencer will eventually go back to Japan to pack up their home there, get their dog and bring everything to California. However, at this time, that is very far out.
