At only 6 months old; baby Yatziri Kayleen Cal is in urgent need of a liver transplant. Shes currently being treated at Karl Huesner Memorial hospital in Belize receiving life sustaining treatment. Baby Yatziri needs to be transported to Mexico to receive her liver transplant. The family urgently needs approximately $55,000 dollars to pay for this life saving procedure.
Baby Yatziri is the daughter of Pedro & Karen Cal, living in San Pedro, Belize CA. Baby Yatziri was born on July 2021 and at the age of three months, was diagnosed with a rare disease called “Biliary Atresia”
(Biliary Atresia is a condition in infants in which the bile ducts outside and inside the liver are scarred and blocked. Bile can't flow into the intestine, so bile builds up in the liver and damages it. The damage leads to scarring, loss of liver tissue and function, and cirrhosis. If not treated with surgery, it can be fatal.)
Baby Yatziri was scheduled to receive the Kasai procedure (her ducts were to be connected directly to her intestine to help with the digestion of food) but while performing this surgery, the doctors realized that 3/4 of her liver was already damaged so they had to resort to a new procedure. They then performed a cholecystectomy (removal of her gallbladder) in order to give her a little more time to get everything in order for her liver transplant. They had said the surgery would give them at least 6 months to prepare, but it was not the case.
After only a few weeks of undergoing surgery, Baby Yatziri started with complications. She had vomiting, diarrhea and fever. She was rushed to the hospital and it was found that she had a lot of liquid buildup in her stomach due to the surgery. They tried medication to help but was it not working. The other option they tried was to drain it with tubes. This helped a little but the doctors have said her only solution now is her liver transplant.
It is with this in mind, that we come to you pleading for your assistance. We are doing our very best to get the papers in order and as soon as possible. They will need to travel to Mexico City where the liver transplant will take place. Please, any little donation will take us a long way.
We would like to thank you in advance for your kind support. Baby Yatziri will be happy to hear who helped her along her journey when this is all over.
Faith can move mountains!
