Baby William fights Congenital Heart Disease
Donation protected
William was born on April 26th, 2020, with congenital heart disease called Tetralogy of Fallot. He was medevac'd via helicopter to OU Children's Hospital, in Oklahoma City, on May 2nd where he stayed in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. He was transferred to the Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU) on May 9th and put on ECMO on May 10th. He had open heart surgery on May 13th to put a RVOT patch in his heart. He went back on ECMO the same day and was put into CVICU to recover. Since the surgery William's kidneys have been sick and his skin is green from jaundice. They did an echo and found a blood clot in his renal artery. He was given a clot-busting medicine via a wire in his cannula to try to break up the clot, but it thins his blood so they have to watch bleeding in other areas since his chest is still open and he has multiple IVs. One of his chest tube drains was removed, but unfortunately they were not able to wean him off of the ECMO machine. His father has only seen him one time for a brief couple of moments, due to the COVID-19 tragedy that everyone is going through. His mother, my sister, drives nearly 2 hours each way every day to see him. William is a fighter and is fighting every day, any help that you can give to William and his parents would mean the world and be appreciated more than you would ever know.
