Baby Terrance’s Journey
Terrance, also well known as “Terry” to the PCICU staff at JHH, has overcome many obstacles, superseding expectations some would not think were possible. At 18 weeks gestation, Terrance was diagnosed with Pulmonary Atresia-Intact Ventricular Septum with his mother being placed under Johns Hopkins Hospital care.
Shortly after Terrance was born, he underwent his first open-heart surgery, which eventually led to him experiencing several complications. After being told there was not much left to do for Terrance, his family remained in high spirits, hopeful that he would live and not die (Psalm 118:17).
Terrance has remained in the hospital since birth. At 10 months old, Terrance overcame 3 episodes of cardiac arrest, ECMO, 4 open-heart procedures, and multiple interventions.
Terrance enjoys spa day with his mom, sweeties from his nurse/ honorable Grandma Candace, and lots of love and attention from all the PCICU medical professionals.
Intimate details -
Terrance III is a 10-month-old, sweet baby boy who has undergone 4 open-heart surgeries…all before his 1st birthday. His mother, Jasmine, and father, Terrance Jr, also co-parent their 4-year-old daughter, Olivia.
Jasmine has spent nearly every day with Baby Terrance at the hospital. She drops her daughter off at school each morning and heads downtown to Johns Hopkins to spend the day with her son. Loving and bonding with him, bathing and changing him, being an extra hand for the PCICU Nurses learning how to care for him, and most importantly, praying over him...all while continuing to work her full time, partially remote job. She is thankful to have close family that can help with Olivia after school until she can get there.
It has been a long, stressful road; however, Jasmine has kept her faith on the forefront and her focus on the next steps, big or small. Many of us question Jasmine on how she is doing it, and her answer is always, “My faith is what keeps me going.” To see it is to believe it!
Despite all of Terrance’s medical complications, this little warrior is resilient and mighty and shows more of his sweet and silly personality daily.
For 9 months, Terrance was held to his hospital room. He has most recently been upgraded to be able to ride in his wagon around the unit, and he loves it. His face lights up, and that big, gummy grin comes over.
On a financial side, Jasmine has been living on a tight budget to ensure her bills are paid on time, her daughter, Olivia, is taken care of, and she is physically there for Terrance. This has taken a significant toll on her finances; however, with Jasmine typically being the person family and friends turn to, she finds it difficult to ask for help herself.
Understanding that circumstances can change, Terrance is targeted to make it home with his family by his 1st birthday, March 16th! This is a triumphant moment, indeed, and will require Jasmine to care for Baby Terr 24/7, leaving her unable to work her full-time job for the time being. Thankfully, Jasmine will be able to use FMLA for 12 weeks, knowing this is unpaid time but still keeping her medical benefits. She is unsure of what will come after the 12 weeks and has put her faith in God to guide her way.
Once discharged from the hospital, Terrance will require appointments with his pediatrician, in addition to multiple medical specialists, including Cardiology, Nephrology, Pulmonology, Gastroenterology, and rehab therapies - physical, occupational, and speech. All these services are needed to maintain his health and wellbeing.
Jasmine has approved creating this Go Fund Me in hopes of any financial support for the 12 weeks without a paycheck. No matter the amount, your generous donation can significantly impact financial relief for Jasmine. If you cannot contribute, we understand that times are tough and appreciate taking the time to pray for Baby Terrance.
Our family thanks you for your continued prayers during Terrance’s journey. He is truly a miracle and will have a powerful testimony to share when he is older.
