Baby Taysom's Heart
Donation protected
Taysom John , infant son of Jeff and Allie Sipple, was diagnosed with a congenital heart defect at 21 weeks of development. This is when they found out that he had Transposition of the Great Arteries. 4 weeks later at our next fetal echo they also found that he has a Coarctation of Aorta. Taysom was born via c-section on 1/25/2021 . Immediately after being born he was taken to the room next door by the doctors to have an echocardiogram and X-ray done. From there they took him straight to the cath lab to make the hole he has between his upper two chambers of his heart slightly bigger so that he would have a higher percentage of blood and oxygen mixture; this way they wouldn’t have to do immediate open heart surgery. After studying the echocardiogram, X-rays and CT scans the cardiologist determined that this procedure would be a lot more high risk than they first anticipated.
This is when they decided Taysom’s best chance for a successful surgery would be to transfer him to the Children’s Hospital in Minneapolis. A surgery like the one Taysom is going to have, it puts him at a higher risk with the multiple heart defects, but a little good news is that everything else looks great for our little man and that slightly lowers his risks during surgery and recovery. Surgery is set for right away Monday morning 2/1/21. The surgeon said pending all goes well it’s about a 5 hour surgery, then about an hour to get him settled back into his room. We were also informed that our little baby that appears healthy now will look quite sick for a while after surgery. They will leave the chest open for a day or two after the procedure to allow the fluid drain, swelling to decrease, and easier access if complications were to arise.
We are raising money for the family to help with any cost that are not covered for his surgery. Because of Covid they are not allowed to go back and forth between home and the cities for the possible 4 weeks that Taysom will be in hospital. This will result in expenses for them and loss of income for some of Jeff's work.
