It all started the evening of 2/16 little Sutton and his parents went to the ER in a town called La Vernia. Sutton was very congested and they had X-rays done on him. The tech said they were clear but said they needed to get him to the hospital ASAP because of his breathing. He called an ambulance and it came for them. Brandon followed them in his vehicle. The normal 50 minute drive to the hospital actually took the 1 1/2 hours. The unfortunate thing was it was the worst weather. The snow and ice had closed down most roads. The ambulance was slipping on the ice and prayers were being said by Kacie and the paramedic to get them to the hospital safely. When they arrived they were immediately given a room in ICU. They remain in ICU today. Sutton is 15 weeks old.
He has been diagnosed with Rhinovirus, Bronchiolitis and Tracheitis. He also has developed an ear infection plus a small hernia in his belly button since being admitted. We think the hernia came from coughing so much. He is receiving breathing treatments with lidocaine to ease the throat pain. He is on steroids, pain killer and now antibiotics. He’s too weak to have a scope done to see if there are any obstructions in his air way. They will wait to do that procedure until he’s better. Sutton is a very happy baby and started smiling at 2 months old. His mom and dad said the minute they see him smile they’ll know he’s on his way back. Day 7 in ICU yesterday he smiled when they removed the feeding tube. The rhinovirus is a long lasting virus. They’ve been told is has to run its course. They have so many friends and family praying. It’s so appreciated. I would love nothing more than to call Kacie and Brandon and let them know the funds are available to cover her out of pocket and the 20% she will owe going forward. That’s one less thing for them to worry about. I realize everyone is going through hard times right now and will totally understand if you can’t help, but please share and we’ll take your prayers instead. For those of you who can please know that it will be truly appreciated to these first time parents.
Sincerely,
Jessica Ramirez
