Baby Stone Support Fund (premature birth)

Donation protected
While most of us were focused on getting ready for Thanksgiving, James and Kelly were hastily transported via ambulance, to Rush Presbyterian Hospital. Their baby boy, whom they were expecting to arrive into this world the upcoming Valentine’s Day, was in danger due to a placental abruption.

Over the next 12 days, staff worked to keep the baby in utero to help him develop his vital organs. On November 27th, Kelly underwent an urgent c-section at 29 weeks, due to the baby being in distress. Amidst complications, Kelly was in surgery for over 2 hours and received multiple blood transfusions. At 12:23 pm, she gave birth to a beautiful 2 lb 5 oz baby boy. Stone Santiago Sula entered this world 3 months premature, and was kept in Neonatal ICU for nearly two months before James & Kelly could take him home to be with them and his two older brothers.

Instead of things moving back to normal, Baby Stone has contracted a virus and has been hospitalized in the Pediatric ICU at Hope Children’s Hospital. He has been suffering from viral induced apnic episodes and has been non-invasively intubated. He suffered seizures and has been having severe and prolonged episodes of oxygen desaturation. The doctors and specialists at Hope have formed a team and are working hard to determine underlying causes. Stone’s prognosis is undetermined, and his little body is fighting desperately to stay in this world.

All of the doctor visits, lengthy hospital stays, and time away from work has put a heavy financial burden on these already terrified parents. On behalf of James and Kelly, their family is asking for any support you might be able to provide. Your assistance will help mom and dad with the astronomical medical bills that they’ve already accrued, and those that will keep piling up until this little guy gets healthy. Every dollar donated here will help this young family. Please keep Baby Stone and his parents, James and Kelly, in your thoughts and prayers.

“My journey began as a pebble,
Now I have grown into a rock.
But know that this is because,
I am tough as STONE, and I will continue to fight.”
