Supporting Carly and Her Family Through the Unthinkable

What should have been a happy and exciting experience for Carly, Steve, and their beautiful little family unfortunately, and very quickly, became the most heartbreaking and difficult time — one that no family should ever have to face.

Carly was expecting a much-loved and already deeply cherished baby boy. We have now learned that she was experiencing serious complications during the pregnancy, which resulted in a rupture of her uterus.

As Carly became unwell, she had a fall down the stairs and was taken to hospital. On the way there, Carly went into cardiac arrest. When she arrived, the doctors acted quickly and delivered the most perfect little boy, Stevie Jnr, three months early. The doctors worked so hard to keep our beautiful Carly here, and miraculously, her heart started beating again.

The amazing midwives and doctors did all they could to give Stevie Jnr a chance at life, but despite their best efforts, he was simply too precious for this world. With shattered hearts, we had to say goodbye to their perfect little angel.

While all of this was happening, and as the family mourned the loss of baby Stevie Jnr, the hospital doctors and nurses continued to work tirelessly to save Carly and bring her back to us. So far, they’ve done an incredible job — and Carly, being the strong fighter she is, is still putting up her hardest fight to return to us.

Unfortunately, during this tragedy, Carly lost her entire circulating blood supply, meaning that for a significant period of time her brain was not receiving the blood or oxygen it needed. This has resulted in confirmed significant brain damage. At this stage, her family and loved ones do not know the extent of the damage, or what it will mean for Carly and her future.

Carly is currently being cared for around the clock by the amazing intensive care unit team. We do not know what her journey will look like from here. This long and painful road is far from over, and it may still bring further heartache, complications, and risks.
