Baby Skylar's stay at the Hospital

Friday February 10 Erika had a routine Prenatal doctors appointment. During this appointment her blood pressure was nearly 170 and during pregnancy this is NOT GOOD. We were strongly advised to go to the hospital at once and we did.

Erika was admitted to the hospital and told that she wouldn't be going home until baby Skylar was born. This was pretty terrifying to say the least considering that Skylar wasn't supposed to arrive until April 11.

Erika was Put on Magnesium Sulfate, which if you know is not a fun time. With blood pressure this high doctors were concerned about Erika having a stroke or seizure and the "MAG" was used to protect her brain.

With what some might consider a high amount of blood pressure medication Dr's were able to get Erika's BP back down under the target of 160. We thought oh, this is fine, we'll be out in a day or two.

Well Well, On Monday February 13, I know it wasn't Friday, but I didn't write this story, Her BP was spiking again over the 160 target and the Dr's in Casa Grande decided that it would be best if we went to a larger hospital more suited to treat premature children under 32 weeks of age.

So Banner University Medical Center in Phoenix, AZ had beds available.

On Valentine's day the 14th Once again Erika's BP was spiking and going back and forth over the 160 target pressure, it took the DR's about 2 hours to get Her BP to stabilize below 160, The Dr's stated that it took nearly the maximum 80 of 100 percent of the medication available to get Her BP under control. The Dr's do not utilize 100% because they need that remaining 20% for the time of delivery or surgery.

This brings us to Wednesday February 15th, her BP was taken at about 6am and it was 164, the nurse elevated Erika and her arm to heart level and took her BP again 154, WHEW! I knew this wasn't right. Erika was on 4 hour check and I knew this was too long. The next time Her BP was taken at abut 9am it was 180, 15 minutes later it was 174, the doctors began their treatment protocol once again and decided that today was the day. The Operating Room (OR), had availability at about 2pm. Hospital time is long time, 15 minutes equals 45-60 minutes. Doctors brought in forms to sign and descriptions of the process, here's what is going to happen.

4:09pm February 15 Baby Skylar left the previous dimension that she was in and Saw the light of the operating room for the first time, yelling the whole way out.

She was brought to the NICU, shortly after being born.

Erika was finally discharged on Saturday the 18th and is recovering happily.

Skylar is doing well but at 3lbs 7oz we have a while before she will be able to go home.

Many have asked what we need and what they can do to help, Hospital food isn't exactly cheap about $9 per meal.

We don't need much we just need Food if we are to stay here and care for and watch over our precious baby girl.

We thank you all and hope Skylar can get big and strong and come home soon.
