Baby Rhett-Transposition of the Greater Arteries

On December 2, 2020, baby Rhett Robert Thom made his surprise, early, and sudden entrance while his daddy Matthew was out of state.  His mommy, Kendra, is nothing short of a real life super hero.  Shortly after he was born, he was taken to the NICU due to some breathing concerns and it was discovered with additional testing that he has a rare congenital heart defect that was not known prior to birth called Transposition of the great arteries.  Transposition of the Great Arteries or d-TGA is a birth defect of the heart in which the two main arteries carrying blood out of the heart – the main pulmonary artery and the aorta – are switched in position, or “transposed.”  Baby Rhett and his mommy were life flighted shortly after his birth to Mayo Clinic-Rochester as Rhett will need to undergo heart surgery to switch the arteries.  Per conversation last evening with Matt, it sounds like they are going to try to hold off on the major surgery a couple more weeks until he is closer to term so today Baby Rhett is having a heart procedure to allow oxygen-rich blood to get circulated to his body.   Once he has his major surgery, the doctors estimate that he could be in the hospital for recovery up to a month.  This go-fund me has been set up to help with costs of hotels, food, and growing medical bills.  Please keep this sweet family in your prayers.
