Baby "Kip Alan Funk"

Hello, Everyone! My name is Kip Alan Funk and I was in an awful big hurry to come into this world. Heavenly Father blessed me to be part of Jaycee, Jesse and Millie Funk’s family.

So let me tell you my story…at 28 weeks and 5 days, something was amiss with the water system that fills my swimming pool (something they call amniotic fluid); so I just decided it was time to get this party started.

My Dad raced Mom and me to the hospital in something they call labor; the doctors and nurses were able to slow that down and get it under control, but they wanted to keep a close eye on me (like I could make it through that slippery slide of 4cm!). But you know us Funk boys -- we are pretty stubborn and once we have our minds made up, it’s gonna happen. So after about 4 days of doing the backstroke in my pool I decided to push my way out, and before they could even get my Mom prepped for a C-section I was on my way down that slide. I was born at 12:25 a.m. on Labor Day with only 10 minutes of labor; I weighed in at 2 lbs 13 oz, and 14" long.

At that point, these pretty cool nurses raced me off to a space station where they set me up with my own little spaceship -- I guess I was not quite ready to take on this ole world without all my functions running. It's so cozy and warm in here, it's really nice, but they keep pok’n and stick’n me and squeez’n what little hemoglobin I have made up, but I guess it can't all be fun. One little miracle coming from all this is they come every day to work on my feet and hands so maybe I won’t need surgery or casts to fix the Funk Club foot (distal arthrogryposis ).

So, what with coming so early and all this extra care and the space shuttle stay, it has put an unexpected burden on the finances for my family. I have asked Grandpa to set up this GoFundMe-thing, which could help cover something they call ‘max out of pocket’ for insurance.

So far, so good; I am doing better every day. They want to keep me at the space station until November if they can, but they don’t know how strong I am! I hope to be home SOONER rather than later!

Well, that pretty much covers it. Thanks for listen’n to my story; anything you can donate will help. If you know of nifty way to get my story out, it would go a long way towards letting Mom and Dad focus on getting me home to meet my big sister (man, is she in for a whole new world with me in it!).
