Baby Oliver (Candace and Tim Pappas)

As most of you know on December 3, Candace and Tim Pappas gave birth to a precious baby boy, Oliver Cole Pappas. However after spending a few days in the NICU and then home with his parents, a biopsy confirmed that little Oliver has Hirschsprung’s Disease and will require surgery. (The surgery is currently scheduled for Tuesday, December 18)
Hirschsprung’s affects about 1 in 5,000 children and is most often found in little boys. It is the absence of ganglion cells in the colon, the cells that allow you to go to the bathroom normally.
This is not the news any parent wants to hear. Especially during the holiday season. Candace and Tim are strong in their faith and are hopeful everything will be fine. Oliver has continued eating and pooping on his own. (With this diagnosis that is a good thing!) If all goes well, Oliver should be back home...again...after 24-48 hours in hospital post op. However, because of the nature of this disease, the surgeons won’t know how badly he is affected until they are operating. That could lead to a longer more complicated surgery that include some very scary words. Once everything is complete, Oliver will require monthly outpatient treatments over the next several months.
All of that being said, the Pappas’ need our help. Candace and Tim are active members in the Orlando performing arts and Disney community. Their time away from work is very limited and they both aren’t receiving paid leave. Medical bills will be adding up along with the stress of everyday living (food, gas, rent, ultilties, diapers etc). Not to mention, with Christmas being next week, there’s a chance they could be spending the holiday in the hospital.
If you feel lead to donate, any little bit will help tremendously. Candace and Tim are not ones to ask for help, but in this critical time, it takes a village.
