Baby Noah’s road to recovery

On June 15th, my sister Casey and her fiancé Jake welcomed their baby boy, Noah Paul Hazlett, into the world and soon after that they received the news that their sweet baby boy was in critical condition and needed to be taken into the neonatal intensive care unit. Noah was diagnosed with respiratory distress syndrome and was immediately placed on life sustaining measures. Now 4 days later, Noah is still unable to breathe on his own. Casey has a high risk pregnancy condition called (ICP) intrahepatic cholestasis of pregnancy. Unfortunately, they don’t have much research on fetal development when diagnosed with ICP other than women with ICP carry an increased risk of delivering a still born or the babies are born with severe respiratory problems. Casey had to be induced at 36 weeks because of how severe her ICP got in the last few months of her pregnancy. She had multiple admissions to a high risk antepartum unit and spent every day driving to Magee to see her high risk team of doctors and having non stress tests performed to ensure the baby wasn’t in distress. As a result of how poor Casey’s condition was during the pregnancy, Jake used up a lot of his resources he was relying on post pregnancy. Such as exhausting all of his PTO and savings. On top of this they are now facing unexpected expenses such a hospital parking($30/day), gas,and extra time off with no income. They are still having to pay rent even though they are not spending much time in their home. Not only are they dealing with focusing on the healing of Noah, they have also been away from their other two sons for days now. Even once Noah is released, it will be a long road for Casey and Jake. Noah is going to need more specialized care and visits with doctors than anticipated. Any help would be greatly appreciated so they can focus on the healing of their baby rather than the financial hardships to come.
