This Gofundme is an effort to help support Chevah and Gerome James of Trinidad & Tobago to provide their 16 month old son the medical care he desperately needs.
On May 22, 2019, Chevah and Gerome were blessed with their first child, a son they named Nathaniel, which means ‘a gift of God’. Nathaniel was born at 27 weeks weighing only 900 grams (1.984 lbs.) requiring he remain in NICU for 4 months. Nathaniel’s arrival at home should have been a joyous occasion, however, Nathaniel soon began showing signs that raised concerns. After multiple hospital visits and tests the doctors determined that Nathaniel’s swollen abdomen, thin limbs, jaundice, slow weight gain and slow development were due to Biliary Atresia , a rare and incurable disease. In short, Nathaniel’s liver is failing.
Following his diagnosis, Nathaniel at the fragile age of 7 months underwent surgery to address liver cirrhosis due to his condition. Through all of this, it has become clear Nathaniel will require a liver transplant. At the moment, Chevah and Gerome are doing all they can to remain hopeful and continue to advocate for their son’s medical needs. Their current efforts are to have Nathaniel receive much needed treatment from medical professionals at a nearby hospital specializing in pediatric conditions such as biliary atresia. Due to the pandemic we are all experiencing globally, however, Chevah and Gerome’s fight to have their son receive such care has been slow and challenging.
We know Nathaniel has a long road ahead of him. For now, Chevah and Gerome continue to pray and work hard so that their gift from God is given the care he needs and the chance he deserves. Their needs and expenses are many and Chevah and Gerome are doing all they can to meet them. As part of their extended family, we are starting this effort to help them and ask for your prayers and any donations you can make at this time to help Nathaniel on his journey.
