Baby Mona's Hospital Stay

My beautiful granddaughter, Romona Jones, was born Sept. 4th. She had been home for a short time when her mom and dad noticed something wasn't right. Mona wasn't waking up, not even to eat. Her parents immediately took her in to be evaluated and Mona was admitted to the hospital due to issues with her insulin levels. Since then, Mona has been poked and proded and had many labs and tests done. Her official diagnosis is hypoinsulinemia. Right now the Endocrinologist is very optimistic that this is transient, meaning she will grow out of it, however her grandfather was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes as a baby so there is a concern this could be life long battle for her. As of right now Mona is in the hospital still while her doctors continue to run tests and work with her family to establish a plan of care. Her daddy is trying to keep the day to day life going with her older brother, which makes it so he can't work right now. Staying in the hospital means they have had to utilize convince foods, which had added to their grocery bill as well. We are trying to lessen the stress of having a newborn in the hospital by lifting some of the financial burden on this one income household. Update 9/14/24: Romona has been unable to keep her blood sugar levels above 50 after two attempts at a 6 hour fast. Due to this she will need to be on medication. The doctors are hopeful she will get to go home soon after they monitor how she does on the medications. These medications are very expensive and are being paid out of pocket by mom and dad until insurance kicks in. These add up quick but it will be the best route to get this family home as soon as safely possible. Any help with covering these new costs is very appreciated!
