Maytred is my 3 year old grandson. He loves to ride dirt bikes, skateboards, work on cars with his daddy and be outside being active. He has always been healthy. On June 4th, he got a runny nose and a little bit of a cough. On June 7th he started getting a barking sounded cough and seemed to have a harder time catching his breath so we took him to the emergency room. They said he had croup and gave him a breathing treatment and some medicine and sent him home. He would have active periods and then be tired, which they said was normal. On the evening of June 9th, he seemed more lathergic and we took him back to the emergency room, they said it was croup and he just needed rest and to keep taking the medicine. The next day, June 10th, we couldn’t get him to walk atound so we started back to the ER, his lips turned purple and we called an ambulance. After getting the the hospital, they stabilized him and sent him by helicopter to Loma Linda ICU. In the helicopter on the way, he went into respiratory arrest and had to be put on a breathing machine. 2 days later, his organs started to fail (heart, liver, kidneys) so they put him on dialysis. For the past week, they have been running tests and keeping him stable, but he is still very sick and they don’t know exactly what is wrong with him.
Here is what we know. He has para influenza 4 (the virus that causes croup) and has tested positive for the antibodies from Covid. We know he had Covid in late November and was asymptomatic. They believe that has caused something called MIS-C and inflammatory attack in his muscles and organs. They believe there is some other underlying issue that has caused him to be this ill, but do not know what it is and are still running tests.
We never wanted to ask anyone for financial help, but are exhausting our resources with motel, gas and other expenses. They have told us he will be in ICU for at least another week at the least and would appreciate any help to supplement the funds we have left, so that mom and dad can be close to him while he is here.
Thank you and please pray for his recovery ❤️
