It is with great sadness and remorse that we that we share this update with all of you... Our precious little Makana did not survive through the night of September 2nd and passed away in his mommy’s arms. Makana and Jerusha were surrounded by family members (Mother Kathy Hayes and sister Rachel Blevins ) through this very painful experience. Makana was not in pain but his little body just couldn’t fight any longer against the multitude of damages to his kidneys, lungs, heart and brain. His body wasn’t accepting medications in they way that would allow him to heal. His brain began to hemmorage and suffered irreparable damage... the list just goes on and is just too overwhelming and heartbreaking.
We do feel the urgent need to refocus this campaign created initially for Makana's support. We now ask that all love and prayers go directly to Jerusha and her family members as we work to plan aftercare for her emotional and mental stability during this painfully difficult time. Although Makana's life here on earth was extremely short he was able to bring so many together to join in true love and kindness and we thank you all deeply for the efforts you have shown for Makana and Jerusha.
Some of you know more of Jerusha's backstory and details than others... For her to recover from this we will be searching for a stable home for her on Maui where she will be able to peacefully grieve and begin to plan a life moving forward. Jerusha suffers from a major frontal lobe injury which happened in an accident in her teens on the island of Maui. She has had insurmountable stopping blocks in life because of it. We are fighting a disability case for her currently in hopes to get her more support from the state of Hawaii. In the meantime, she will be needing all of our support and kindness so please please please reach out to us if there is anything you know of that could help us to help her.
Funds donated will still be covering immediate costs during our stay here at the Ronald McDonald house and at Kapiolani Medical center on Oahu. Beyond that we will need to make sure that funeral expenses for Makana are raised as well as bereavement counseling for Jerusha. This campaign will continue on until further notice and we thank you all for participating.

Baby Makana was born on Thursday August 29that Maui Memorial Hospital in an emergency C section situation. His umbilical cord was wrapped around his neck and snapped causing a major loss of blood and nutrients in the timeframe before his birth. Makana is currently at the NICU at Kapiolani hospital. Doctors are working around the clock with the aim to improve his blood acidity, kidney function, assist him with breathing and keep his heart pumping among other vitals that are not stabilized yet. Makana is on the "heads up" list for the Ecmo heart-lung bypass machine which works by removing blood from the patient and pumping that blood through an artificial lung called a membrane oxygenator.
As a group of family members and loved ones we are organizing in hopes to raise immediate funds for assistance. Makana's mommy Jerusha Blevins will be on Oahu at the hospital with baby Makana however she needs physical and emotional support that will require funds for inter island travel and lodging. She is post cesarian and will be in a wheelchair until her body can heal. Your donation will go towards family being available to her and baby Makana during this critical period of time.
