Baby Lucian's NICU and Medical Bills

On December 21st, 2020 Emily and Alex Malo's son Lucian Alexander Malo was unexpectedly born 15 weeks early weighing 1 pound 11 ounces. Lucian is currently in the NICU where he is getting the best care possible with an amazing team of nurses and doctors. He is currently on a ventilator helping him breath, he is getting treatment for his increased bilirubin levels with the help of blue lights (high bilirubin levels contribute to him having jaundice), he has a feeding tube to get him his nutrients, a picc line to deliver medications and multiple leads to give the doctors and nurses readings on his vitals such as his heart rate, blood pressure, respiratory rate, and body temperature. During his stay he has had multiple brain scans to check for brain bleeds, echocardiogram's of his heart, blood gas tests, as well as tests to check his bilirubin levels and other vitals and overall health. Doctors are cautiously optimistic about his outcome and believe with these tests and treatment plan he can be released in a little over three months.

A typical day in the NICU averages around $3,000 and Lucian, being born at 25 weeks has a long stay ahead of him. He will be in the NICU until at least April 2, 2021 but it could be longer. Emily and Alex are not sure how much insurance is going to cover so these donations will be to take care of what insurance will not. These donations will be covering his entire stay in the NICU, procedures, tests, medications, as well as going to expenses after he is released which will include doctors visits, physical therapy, and everything else that might come during his development.
