Hello from Baby Luca and Mom. Baby Luca has had quite the journey. Challenges began in pregnancy as moms body developed severe preeclampsia. Starting in April, challenges arose leading to many appts several times a week and bed rest.

As the situation developed Baby Luca was not developing as he should in utero. He was already labeled as severely growth restricted. These challenges and the dangerous health conditions for mom and baby, led to his early arrival.

Baby Luca was delivered into this world 6/5/23 and has been in the NICU every since. The hospital in Albuquerque is wonderful, even though it is 2.5 hours away from home base in Taos, NM. Because of Luca’s underdevelopment there are certain milestones that must be met for release. These things are all done at his own pace and safe progression. It is estimated he will be in the NICU 2-5 weeks.

Luca’s early arrival, and underdevelopment are bringing many more challenges aside from medical and physical. Mom is staying local to provide support and breast milk. In addition to her own recovery. Due to bed rest, and risky complications mom has not been able to work like normal. Now we are facing difficulties being so far from home, paying for gas to and from the hospital, lodging, food and other support items in preparation for his early arrival.
