It comes with great sadness that we have to announce the passing of our precious son Luca Connor Riley Hayes who we sadly lost on the 23rd of August 2026 at the tiny age of 2 months and 28 days old

Luca was born on the 26th of may 2026 at 22:55 and it truly was 1 of the scariest and best days of our lives.

Our precious Luca was born 7 weeks premature with a condition where his bowels had grown outside of his body, called gastroschisis. Luca had undergone 4 surgeries while being at kings college hospital.

finally after 83 days they said Luca was fit to come home, we had 5 JUST 5 days with him but on Saturday the 22nd of August Luca stopped breathing 3 times, after callling 999, we was told this would be due to colic and possibly due to his hernias which was due to be operated on, on the 3rd of September . We was told an emergency ambulance had been dispatched. We then had a call back to say an ambulance would take 45 minutes so could we get him there ourselves, although they didn’t think he needed to be seen but for for peace of mind we could take him ourselves.

we got to Medway and Luca was very quickly rushed in to a side room off children’s a&e. We was told they was putting Luca in to a coma as he had become very unwell very quickly.

Luca,s tummy had become extremely swollen and blood circulation was being cut off from Luca,s legs. It then become very clear Luca was extremely poorly. They needed to release the gas pressure from Lucas stomach, but Medway was not equipped to do so, so he needed to be transferred to kings. After an hour of trying to stabilise Luca, because he had then gone in to cardiac arrest. We finally got told Luca was stable enough to be transferred, but the journey would be the biggest task as he could pass in transit.

An hour later we was at kings, this gave us hope.

They got him in to PICU and started surgery at Lucas bed side. However Luca once again went in to cardiac arrest during surgery, they managed to bring Luca back, but shortly after Luca went back in to cardiac arrest, we was asked to go in to his room and told about Lucas condition. At this point they had been working on Luca for some time and it was clear it was not bringing our precious boy back to us.

At 00:25 on the 23rd of August Luca passed away with his mummy and daddy right by his side, we sang his favourite song to him and told him how dearly we loved him

we obviously want to give Luca the most beautiful send off, because he truly was the most beautiful baby boy we have ever seen, but due to Luca being in hospital for 3 months we have not been able to work. Our hearts are broken and it really does not feel real, we had him home for 5 days, just 5 tiny days. However we will treasure those 5 days for the rest of our lives.
