My name is Sam, and my little sister and best friend is Shanna. Shanna and Darren are parents to a rebellious little 3 year old girl and were over the moon to be welcoming their second child, a little boy in the next week. His room was perfect, decorated with blue and maize in favor of his dads favorite team. His clothing was washed and hung. His bathtub seat was ready in the bathroom. All that needed to come home was Harlan. May 18, at Shanna's 39 week and last OB appt as they were going to set an induction day, they learned that little Harlan no longer had a heartbeat. He was active that morning just hours before. Shanna and Darren went into the hospital holding hope that this was a mistake and he was just being crafty, but learned that this was not the case. Harlan Lee Roeder was born the next day at 1023am. He was 8 pounds, 2oz, and 21 inches long. He was big, beautiful, and had a head of red hair just like his dad who loved him more than anything else. His cheeks were chubby. His feet big, and his skin soft. They learned that his cord had gotten wrapped around causing compression. Harlan was able to spend 24 hours with his parents before they had to head home with a broken heart and empty arms to navigate life without the final puzzle peice. This is where this fundraiser comes in. Neither of them are going to be able to return to work anytime soon, and neither of them have paid leave from their jobs. The last thing that I want to happen to them is for them to get behind on payments for bills as that will be a constant proverbial salt in the wound. Several people have reached out asking what they can do, and this is something. The goal is to buy them two months of time to process and to cover bills. They need to be able to heal and walk forward into the immediate future with the least amount of excess strain. If you cannot donate, share. And above all else, pray for Shanna, Darren and Harlan Lee Roeder. Please and thank you. -Sam.
