For those of you who don’t know yet or don’t know the whole story yet… regarding Lilla (Lil-Lah)

Lilla Lynne Ruby, mine and Ryan’s daughter has suffered a large 1st and 2nd degree burn the evening of Dec 5th. It covers her face, left shoulder and chest above the bellybutton.

I was cooking at the stove. On the large back left element I had moose steaks cooking. On the small front left element I had gravy cooking. The small back right element I had cabbage and carrots. Our large front right element doesn’t get used right now because of a problem with it. Gravy was a last minute decision. It wasn’t thickening to I turned it up and soon was boiling. I turned it down and went to flip the steaks my hand bumped the gravy and it slid off the stove. I jumped back to avoid it and reached out with my arms to catch it. I thought Lilla was on the couch with Jax and Ryan but she was beside me. The boiling hot gravy spilled right onto Lilla.

I panicked and started screaming “oh god” multiple times as I scooped her up and ran to the shower to get it off her ASAP. Ryan ran in right behind me and stripped her down. He finished getting her rinsed, threw a fresh diaper on her and wrapped her in a towel while I panicked and cried and packed her backpack with basic essentials fast as I could. Ryan started the truck and I hopped in and took Lilla wrapped in the towel in my arms. I drove straight to the hospital with her in my arms. I parked and ran into the mills memorial ER holding her close to me and the first nurse/Dr I saw I said “she’s burned” and they rushed us into the trauma room immediately. Ryan and Jax came in shortly after.

The first thing they did was put some special gel on her. Took her vitals and got the basics from me. They hooked her up to IV and put a catheter in. They called peds, and peds called out to the childrens hospital. They dressed her chest and shoulder wounds and kept her face lathered with vasaline. We were flown the next morning after staying in the night in Mills Memorial ICU to the BC Childrens Hospital via air ambulance.

Lilla has had normal vitals despite her trauma and is very strong. The plastics Drs said after her first burn bath (December 8th) that she will have little to no scarring. We were released to the BC Firefighters Burn House the afternoon of Dec 10th. My boys, Jax and Ryan flew to join us in the burn house where we will be staying until her next burn bath on Thursday Dec 15th, when they will reassess her burns and see how well she is healing. Depending on how the burn bath goes we will either be staying longer or being sent home.

We have had financial, emotional and physical help from family and friends and we appreciate everything that has been given to help us through this. our Lilla Bear is a strong little girl! She is doing well, eating and drinking well, and getting back to climbing and dancing and being sassy and cute
