On April 17th, we received the most devastating news a parent could ever hear: our baby girl was diagnosed with multicystic dysplastic kidney, and doctors also confirmed that she did not have a right kidney at all. Without a single functioning kidney no amniotic fluid was surrounding her, her condition was deemed incompatible with life. We were given three options: to let her pass naturally, to terminate the pregnancy, or to try a medical trial in another state. We chose to fight for our daughter and give her a chance, no matter how slim. We traveled to the next state over for a procedure where synthetic amniotic fluid was infused into my womb to give her lungs a chance to develop, with the hope that she could breathe on her own and survive long enough to receive a kidney transplant around her first birthday. After the procedure, we spent hours waiting, hoping for a miracle. But after three hours, an ultrasound showed fluid around her heart, and doctors told us that her heart wasn’t tolerating the fluid well. They said her heart would stop beating within 24 hours. In that moment, we were forced to make another heartbreaking decision—whether to let our daughter go naturally or take another course of action. We have chose to have her and to be able to hold her and spend some time with her before we say goodbye forever. Between the constant trips to the hospital, medical expenses, and the overwhelming emotional toll this has taken on our family, we've used up nearly all of our savings and have fallen behind on some bills. This time is both precious and painful, and any help—no matter how small—would go a long way to support us through this incredibly difficult time.
