Baby Liam's Heart Surgery

April 8th changed my sister's pregnancy forever. At the anatomy scan, her and her husband found out that Baby Kruse had a congenital heart defect. After weeks of testing and echocardiograms at the cardiologist, it was determined that my precious little nephew was going to be born with Tetralogy of Fallot. On August 13th little Liam made his way into the world at 2:39am and was quickly whisked away to the Pediatric Cardiac Intensive Care Unit where he underwent more testing on his heart. After 4 days he was released from the hospital and got to go home with his mom and dad. Since then Liam and his family have been meeting with the cardiologist every month for follow up appointments.

This heart defect caused the baby to have two holes in his heart and a small pulmonary valve leading to his lungs. We were told Liam would need open heart surgery within the first 6 months of his life.  If not, he could eventually turn blue due to the lack of blood going to his lungs. At the last appointment Liam's cardiologist decided it would be in Liam’s best interest to go ahead and schedule them with the heart surgeon. Liam’s heart will be fixed on 12/21 at 6:30am. We are hoping for a successful surgery and a quick 5-7 day stay in the hospital.

After the extended stay in the hospital due to Liam's conditions, my sister and her husband have received several hospital bills and they are quickly adding up. These past hospital bills and current weekly doctor appointments are taking a toll on their financial well-being. Not to mention, other medical complications that will be addressed from the 7 other specialists Liam sees for numerous abnormalities. My sister tries to make ends meet on a limited teacher salary, meanwhile her husband works from home and takes care of Liam. I know this year has been difficult for many people, but I wanted to reach out to my friends and family to see if I can help my sister in any way possible during this difficult time. I will keep you all updated on sweet baby Liam!
