Baby Liam our CDH warrior

UPDATE: Our Baby Liam arrived 12/13/2023 at 12:32 he was intubated right away. Today he was put on ECMO and tomorrow 12/15/23 he will have his repair surgery.

on November 3rd we were told there was something wrong with our baby boy. On November 10th it was confirmed. Baby Liam has a Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia (CDH) which affects 1 in 3000 babies. Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia(CDH) is not just Hernia. Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia (CDH) is a congenital anomaly that occurs when a baby’s diaphragm fails to form fully, allowing abdominal organs to enter the chest cavity and prevent lung growth. ( In his case his liver, bowel and colon is up his chest pushing his heart all the way to the left and didn’t allow his lungs to fully grow giving him only 14% of lung volume) his case is considered severe. Most (85%) of these CDH cases are on the left side where the common organs are intestines and stomach. Liam’s is a right sided CDH and about 50-60% of his liver is in his chest cavity pushing against his lungs and heart. After talking with several doctors and meeting with a team in St Pete at John Hopkins All Children Hospital, we have decided our best route for his survival is delivering in John Hopkins in St Pete with their team. Shortly after birth, he will have a reparative procedure done to push all of his organs in the correct position and add an artificial diaphragm to close up that area to give his lungs more space to grow and develop in the NICU. We have been given an estimate of 4 to 6 months in the NICU. Although his case is severe fortunately we have been given an estimated survival of 90-95% which previous hospital gave us less than 50%.

Due to late Diagnosis we had to relocate to St Pete immediately in a very short time. Due to that we had to leave out businesses behind.

The funds raised will be directly applied to meeting our insurance deductible, co-pays, travel expenses driving and aid in paying bills while im out of work, in addition to housing in St pete while necessary.
