June 13th update from Phil:
Leo’s surgery went well. He tolerated the anesthesia pretty well. Had a little issue with the first IV of epi going into the procedure but seems that it’s not going to have much risk going forward. IV infiltration was on his left ankle and will take care to heal and hopefully won’t cause too much of a scar. When there is more info on the numbers we will update but for now we know that the pace therapy has helped his ejection fraction. The next day or so will be the hardest now as he wakes up, extubation, drain tube, lines one at a time. Then they will be done tuning his pacing to find what works the best and gets his heart moving at all of the right times together. Then hopefully we will see even more improvement. Thank you all for all of the prayers calls, texts and support. We appreciate everyone and will update as he moves through the steps.
UPDATE*
This is Conner here to post the current status of little Leo the . Currently, Phil, Chelsi, Leo, and family are at Stanford as Leo prepares for a second open heart surgery tomorrow, June 13th. He will have a pacemaker placed with the desperate hope that it will help his heart function the way he needs it to. This is going to be a very difficult surgery as he is older and more active/mobile and will again have significant pain/restrictions. The financial burden on their family continues to grow as Phil continues to need to take time off work, coupled with medical bills, food, travel, and housing. Any donation whether it be financial, encouragement, prayer, food, etc is greatly appreciated by all of us! Thank you.
This is Conner and I am raising funds for my brother’s family due to medical expenses. Phil and Chelsi’s son, Leo, was born in December with a congenital heart defect. Just after birth, he required open heart surgery to repair his heart. He made a miraculous recovery from that surgery after many scary weeks in the CICU in Salt Lake. Due to the location, there were some big expenses with housing as well as medical.
Leo had been doing really well until last week when testing revealed an unexpected issue that required a sudden Medevac transport back to Salt Lake. Leo has been back in the CICU where he is undergoing testing to figure out the cause for diagnosis of myocarditis. Unfortunately, Phil and Chelsi are stuck in Salt Lake without knowing when they will have more answers or a plan and now have even more housing and medical expenses. Both of their jobs are also being affected by the situation. They greatly appreciate any support you can offer. Prayers are also greatly appreciated! Thank you all!
