Blake and Annie Hanberg gave birth to their baby girl, Lenix Ann Hanberg, on November 8th 2022. Her birth had been long anticipated- but what wasn’t anticipated was the immediate emergency state she would be born into. Within minutes of her arrival, baby Lenix’s oxygen levels dropped drastically, and doctors rushed to put her on a CPAP machine. 10 hours later, doctors began to see consistent green vomiting from her- a sign of bowel or acid issues. After investigating further using x-rays taken of her stomach, their doctor saw what looked to be a twist/blockage in her intestines and called for an immediate life flight to the nearest infant surgeon for immediate care. Upon their arrival baby Lenix, was rushed into surgery. What they found shocked all the doctors involved. A third of her intestinal tissue was dead- a medical case they almost never see outside of extremely premature babies (which Lenix was not). After 3 long days, Lenix then underwent a second surgery, stitching her remaining intestines together in the hopes they can work properly and grow with her in time. She will have a final surgery on Monday November 14th 2022, that will be the final check to see if her system will work.
