Baby Landon Lor
Hello Friends and Family, and all:
I am creating a gofundme page for my sister, Kia Xiong, and her husband, Xavier Lor, who have recently lost their son, Landon Lor on July 4th, 2020.
On February 27th, 2020, both my sister and brother-in-law found out that they were expecting Baby Lor #2 at 4 weeks and were excited to expand their little family. My sister had her first ultrasound done on May 1st, 2020 at 13 weeks. Baby Lor looked healthy and there were no signs of complications nor health issues.
It wasn't until the second ultrasound (June 16th, 2020) that the ultrasound tech found Baby Lor to have a thickened nuchal fold and heart defect. The doctor had disclosed this information to my sister and was referred to the Maternal Fetal Medicine (MFM) for a level 2 ultrasound the very next day (June 17th). It was found that Baby Lor had no nasal bone, a thickened neck, clenched hands, and a rare heart defect which was the most concerning. A fetal/echo ultrasound was performed the very next day again (June 18th) by a heart specialist. Baby Lor had a rare heart defect that his chances of making to full term was very low. Another ultrasound was performed on June 23rd, 2020 to further examined baby's health conditions. The doctors confirmed that baby had a thick nuchal fold, one of the heart chambers was abnormally large for its size, and the valves on the right side weren't working properly. The heart was overworking causing it to enlarge and unable to pump blood to both lungs. These were markers of down syndromes.
My sister also had her blood drawn for a NIPT blood screening test to rule out if baby had down syndrome or not which took a week to get the results back. The results came back on June 26th, 2020 and confirmed that Baby Lor had trisomy-21. Trisomy-21 babies’ chance of surviving is very low.
A week later, my sister had her last ultrasound (June 26th, 2020) done to determine their next steps. The doctor gave two options for both my sister and brother-in-law to considered: 1) carrying the baby to full term even though baby's chance of making was very slim or 2) terminating baby at an earlier gestational age.
On July 4th, 2020, my sister and brother-in-law made a very difficult decision to terminate their son whom they have been waiting patiently and excitingly to announce his arrival in October of 2020. However, his arrival came earlier than expected. He weighed 1 lb and 1 ounce and measured at 10.5 inches tall.
As a family member, I am asking family and friends, and people around the world to help donate for Baby Landon Lor's medical, funeral and burial cost.
Thank you for taking your time to read Baby Landon Lor's story and your generous donations! We greatly appreciate your help during this time!
Kindest regards,
The Lor Family
