We wanted to start this page to help Drew and Maddie with any financial obligations they have accrued over the last couple of months and for what is in store down the road. We have had many people ask what they can do to help and this is the best way we thought to help them through this time while Caroline is at Riley. Here is a little background on their daughter’s journey:As everyone knows our daughter, Caroline, was born on December 16th 2019. We found out prior to her birth when I was 26 weeks pregnant that she would be born with congenital heart defect called Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome (HLHS). This essentially means she was born with half a functioning heart. The right side is fully developed whereas the left side stopped developed very early in utero. Going forward we knew the journey was going to be rough on us as a whole family. We knew that she would receive the best care possible at Riley. She has to undergo 3 different open heart surgeries and has already had 1 of them at 1 week old. She is now a little over 2 months old and will have her next stage surgery at roughly 4 months and the last at 2-4 years old. She was admitted to Riley at birth until she was 6 ½ weeks old. At that time we were finally able to take our little girl home and all be under one roof! Last Tuesday (18th) we came in for a simple heart cath per her cardiologist and ended up having to be readmitted for what they thought to be 48 hours due to medication changes. On Wednesday afternoon she was having a routine heart echo done and she threw up towards the end. We got her up into her crib to give her a bath and her heart rate started to drop quickly along with her O2. She was fading quickly and they immediately intubated her and transported her down the hall to the Cardiac ICU. When they got her there she went into cardiac arrest and they had to put her on emergent ECMO. This is basically cardiac life support. They were able to get her stable and on ECMO from the cardiac arrest after 20 minutes. On Sunday she was able to be taken off ECMO and recovered from that fairly well. She is still recovering and will be at Riley for most likely the next couple of months. Our little girl is such a fighter and beyond beautiful
