Baby Evelyn's Life Saving Surgery
On February. 17, Jesse Attwood & Leia Morgan welcomed their beautiful baby girl, Evelyn, into the world. It was love at first sight! They couldn't wait to bring her home and start their life together as a family of three. Unfortunately, the life they envisioned has been put on hold, and Evelyn still remains in the hospital awaiting a life saving surgery. Doctors discovered she was born with a rare disease known as "biliary atresia".
Most of you are probably wondering, what is biliary atresia? This disease occurs in about 1 in 19,000 births in Canada, is undetectable on an ultrasound, and has no known cause. The biliary system is a network of tiny tubes that drain bile from the liver to the small intestine, where it helps with digestion, absorption of dietary fats and fat soluble vitamins, and aids in removing waste and toxins from the body.
In order for Evelyn to survive, these ducts need to be repaired, and she will be undergoing surgery on Monday (March. 8) at the Janeway. She then has to stay in the hospital for a month, and will face more challenges on the road ahead as she will require life long extensive follow ups, medications, strict diet, etc.
Having a sick child is every parent's worse nightmare, but Jesse & Leia are staying strong for Evelyn and thankful for the support they have received from family and friends. We have set up this page in order to alleviate some of the monetary stressors that come with this (hospital trips, time off work, medications, etc). We know that times are tough right now, and if you are unable to make a donation please say a prayer for Evelyn and share this page with your facebook friends. Thank you!
