Baby Esmerae admitted to NICU

Hi everyone,

We welcomed our baby girl Esmerae Christine Eby into the world on February 6th, 2024 at UW Medical Center Montlake. After 18 short hours of bonding with our baby she was taken into the NICU after failing the newborn screening 3 times.

The doctors have discovered that she has a low resting heart rate, signs of respiratory distress and they are currently unsure of the cause.

Esmerae has been so strong since day one, and continues to be strong throughout her stay. But her need for medical care isn’t over yet.

Mama is being discharged as a patient from UW Medical center. She underwent an emergency C-Section after 5 days in labor. Esmerae was born unresponsive due to meconium aspiration. Her mouth was then suctioned, and an endotracheal tube was used to clear her airways. Due to this she also needed an oxygen mask to keep the airways open so she could breathe.

We do not know exactly what had caused this trial of events. Esmerae has had an EKG done and we are awaiting for Seattle Children’s cardiologist to take a look at her results.

She has just had an echo ultrasound done to see if there is a possible diagnosis of a heart condition.

We are then awaiting for further testing and an ultrasound of her lungs to determine whether or not this is related to an issue with her lungs.

At this time we are asking for all the love and support we can get for this unknown journey we have ahead.

With mom and dad being discharged, we no longer have a place to stay to be with baby. We are 100 miles away from home and have been down here for a week now. We have used all of our resources and funds are tight.

Dad is out of work, mom is unable to work and funds are being stressed the longer we are down here.

We are also away from our 2 daughters and that in itself has been hard for us. We are asking for prayers as we continue to navigate the unknown with our baby and her recovery.

We’d like to stay down in Seattle until we have answers and can move forward and bring our baby girl home with us.
