Christmas Baby Dolls for Nursing Home Residents
My friend Monica works at McCrite Plaza in Topeka, KS, which is a skilled nursing facility. Yesterday, she said she'd like to be able to buy baby dolls for all the female residents for Christmas. I'd been searching for a Christmas project to do this year - and I especially love the idea of something for those in nursing homes who aren't able to be with their families or have visits.
After I saw her post about her idea, we decided to collaborate and try to raise enough money to buy a doll and blanket for each one of the women (40 total) and cute stuffed dogs for the men (10 total). We found 20" dolls with pacifiers and bottles for $25 each on Amazon and packs of flannel baby blankets (7 for $15.99), and cute 20" dogs for $15.49 each. The Activities Director at McCrite has okayed our plan and we'd like to deliver them by December 20th so they have them for Christmas, as many will be alone this year.
Now the hard - but fun - part! Please help us raise $1300 to purchase these gifts! I know we both have amazing friends who will help us!!
***EDITED: We made it to our goal (ya'll are AMAZING!) but lots of you have asked if you can still donate and the answer is YES! We're going to buy each resident a twin size fleece blanket because they're always cold and can't leave their rooms. These are $12 each with tax so we'd need another $480! Please keep donating! Any extra will be used for gift bags - and again, I'll post the receipts so you can see them when we're done! ❤️❤️❤️
You can give as much as you want - and all of the money will go toward purchasing these (there's a 2.9% fee added to each transaction, so $40 will pay those fees and any extra will buy more dogs). You may donate one in memory of your own parents or grandparents or someone you love.
Please help - fundraiser ends December 10th so we have time to get them all wrapped in blankets and delivered.
We'll share photos after they're delivered - Monica will be able to be there since she works there. Please join me in making Christmas brighter this year for these special folks who've already had such a long, lonely year. It makes my heart happy to be able to do something like this and I love Monica for thinking of it!
