My daughter, Rayna, and son-in-law, Jorge, lost their first baby. Damien Ray Ramirez-Martinez was born still on 6/3/21 at 27 weeks at 12:26 am. He weighed 2.2 oz and was 14.5 inches long . This deep sadness came without warning after a perfectly healthy pregnancy.

As Rayna's mother, my heart breaks for them knowing that they had to come home without their son. On 6/1, she noticed less movement from Damien and went to the emergency room. When there, they had 3 different nurses/doctors try to find a movement on 4 different machines. No parent should have to hear, "there is no longer a heart beat." They had the option to be induced that same day or the next.

They went to the hospital the next day to deliver my grandson. During delivery they found out they lost their son due to a nuchal cord accident. They had him baptized. They had time to spend with Damien to make memories, take photos, talk to him, love him, while they held their perfect baby boy.

Now they are without the baby they cared so much for, with a grief that will last forever.
