Baby Carter's NICU Stay

Donation protected
On May 22nd, my water broke and was yellow. They suspected that baby has swallowed some meconium in the womb and was under some type of stress. On May 23 he was delivered with the help of some induction medications. He initially had alot of fluid in him and had some difficulty breathing but he did very well. Less than 24 hours after being born he started vomiting yellow and green. Due to the previous history of him having a cyst on his bowels that was discovered in the 20 week anatomy scan, it was thought there might be a bowel obstruction so we were transferred to the childrens hospital where they confirmed that he had an obstruction and twisted intestines around the cyst. Emergency surgery was performed and he is in recovery, which is expected to last for many weeks. I am not working, so it's not an issue for me to remain at the hospital with him but Nigel Is our primary income source and he will need to be home with serenity so I can be at the hospital, or vice versa. Our hope is to just get by for these next few weeks with Nigel needing to work as little as possible so he and I can focus on being present for both Serenity and baby Carter and both of their needs. Unfortunately while we were expecting Nigel to take a couple weeks off or slow of work, we were not expecting this long road of recovery for baby Carter.

Carter will remain on a ventilator for a few days until they are confident he can breathe on his own as a CPAP machine is not an option due to the nature of the bowel surgery. After that, he will need measured feeds and see how he does with that before being allowed to nurse. There is currently not an expected release date but it is expected to take a minimum of weeks.

Any and all help is appreciated. Many have already helped out with watching Serenity throughout this so Nigel could be with me but we also don't want her to miss out on being with her own parents as she has been with me for the last two and a half years. Many have also been there to support us emotionally throughout this time and we appreciate all the support so much. Anything helps us and our little family through this time and we are so grateful ❤️
