Baby Camp’s Little Heart & Big Fight for a Healthy Future.

On Tuesday, December 10th, their four-week-old son, Camp, experienced a serious health episode. He was rushed by ambulance to Athens General and then transported to the Arthur Blank Children's Hospital Pediatric ICU due to severe breathing difficulties. While tests for RSV and Rhinovirus proved positive, doctors discovered an underlying condition: a previously undetected "Coarctation of his Aorta." Camp was immediately moved to the Cardiac ICU and intubated to assist with his breathing. Doctors initially planned for immediate surgery to correct the coarctation. However, the presence of viral infections raised concerns about immediate surgery. They were also concerned about his blood gas levels. Thankfully, doctors found a medication that improved a crucial valve's function, potentially resolving this issue. This positive breakthrough allows them to delay the heart surgery for 3-6 weeks, giving Camp time to recover from the viral infections and gain the strength he needs for the surgery. While this means a longer hospital stay, it's the best course of action for his health.

During this challenging time, Keith and Raven are navigating the complexities of Camp's care, while also caring for their five other children. To provide stability and allow the family to stay close to Camp during the holidays, we are working to secure a rental home close to Arthur Blank Children’s Hospital. This will enable them to share precious moments together as they adjust to this temporary new normal.

Keith, a Captain in the Gwinnett County Fire Department, will have to significantly alter his work schedule to be by Camp's side. The medical expenses associated with Camp's care are significant and ongoing.
