Baby Brooks Bone Marrow Transplant

Hello, thank you so much for visiting my fundraiser. My name is Taylor Scherling. I am making this GoFundMe for my best friend Ashley, her husband Dylan, Rowan their 3 year old daughter, and their 10 month old son, Brooks. My intentions are to help ease some financial stress they may encounter with Brooks’ recent medical diagnosis.

Right before Christmas, Brooks had come down with a common cold, it didn't seem too serious, but Ashley did notice some tiny red dots that appeared around Brooks’ eyes. Ashley thought it was probably just a viral rash, but wanted to make sure so she sent a picture to the Pediatrician. After seeing the picture, Ashley was asked to promptly bring Brooks into the office for an exam. The Pediatrician also wanted to get some bloodwork done. The bloodwork came back showing Brooks had a falling platelet count and they were referred to a specialist an hour away from their home. Over the course of several weeks, Brooks underwent 2 bone marrow biopsies, numerous blood draws and a blood transfusion.

On January 18th, the Doctors diagnosis Brooks with MDS-RA (Myelodysplastic Syndrome with Refractory Anemia). This is a bone marrow disorder that can quickly turn into AML (Leukemia) for kids. With how quickly this is progressing for Brooks, they are being referred to Stanford Hospital in California for a Bone Marrow Transplant. The quicker they act, the better chance they have in preventing this disorder from turning into Leukemia. Over the next several months, the whole family will be traveling to Stanford Hospital for pre operation procedures, the transplant and extensive post operative care. This is a three hour drive from their home in Ione, California. There will be extended hospital and hotel stays, gas expenses, time off of work for both Ashley and Dylan, figuring out what insurance will and will not cover, and keeping both their kids home from daycare to prevent Brooks getting sick with his compromised immune system.
