Baby boy Littlejohn

A very good friend and coworker of mine Jessi Chohon and her significant other Nick are expecting their third child, another boy on June 20th.

Around 20 weeks they went to a routine ultrasound and afterwards got a call that they needed her to come back in. They had found a bubble on his spine. That’s when they received the news that he has myelomeningocele spina bifida. This means the nerves and spinal cord are growing on the outside of his body and requires a spine surgery within 24 hours of birth. They won’t know how many nerves are damaged until birth and/or he hits certain milestones throughout his life such as being able to walk without braces or bladder/bowel control.

Baby is measuring in the 7th percentile and his stomach is measuring in the 5th percentile, so they want to deliver him at 37 weeks. Jessi and Nick have already been going to extra appointments in Hastings and Omaha to see specialists, as well as her regular OB in Henderson. We all know the price of gas right now and once baby is born, they will be going back and forth from Omaha to York to be able to spend time with all 3 boys. The surgeon will be able to do the surgery at the same hospital Jessi will deliver at in Omaha. But baby will in the nicu for several weeks. They will also have the cost of hotel rooms once Jessi is out of the hospital. There is a lot of unknown for them right now. Please, if you can donate, anything is appreciated.
