Baby Bodhi’s Urgent Eye Operation
Donation protected
Only a few days after our son Bodhi was born so gently in our home, we discovered that he had a problem with one of his eyes. Being in rural Mozambique, we decided that the only option was to quickly leave our nest and have him checked by a specialist in Johannesburg. It was a big trip to make with a newborn and a toddler, but it was our only choice.

Upon examination at the Pretoria Eye Institute, we found out he has an underdeveloped left eye. He was also born with a congenital cataract and an abnormality called PHPV in that same eye. He cannot see in the left eye.

To save the eye he requires an urgent operation at 9 weeks old to remove the cataract and potential PHPV.
He will undergo surgery under general anesthetic which will hopefully allow vision in this eye. A follow up operation will take place a few weeks later.

These operations are only the first steps in a long road to recovery which will involve medical check ups, potential further operations, corrective neurological work, glasses and contact lenses. We are hopeful that he will have good vision in the future. He is a little champ!

Bodhi is not currently covered under medical insurance. We are seeking any help to assist in covering some of the costs. We just found out that the operation cost is 3x more than anticipated. There are consultations, 2 operations, follow up consultations, travel costs to and from Mozambique and accommodation for the whole family, in order to make this happen.
Any donations are so greatly appreciated.
