Baby Blue's Eye Surgery
Hello, we are Baltimore’s cat cafe, Affogatto!
We are asking our community for support in order to give our cat Baby Blue the medical attention he needs.
Baby Blue came to us from Washington County Humane Society at 12 weeks old with his three siblings. He's an adorable gray tuxedo with the tiniest, softest little meow. Sometimes he's playful and sometimes he's cuddly, but he's always been sweet.
After playing with and meeting many of our Affogatto guests, we noticed Baby Blue coming down with what seemed to be an Upper Respiratory Infection (similar to the common cold in people), and we expected him to get better with isolation and medicine.
Even after several weeks of being quarantined from other cats, carefully cleaning and disinfecting his kennel, and being given three medications several times a day, we noticed one morning that a growth had popped up on one of Baby Blue’s eyes. After consulting with our vet, we took Baby Blue to see a specialist to see what our options were.
Unfortunately, we were told that Baby Blue’s eye condition was due to a complication of feline herpes (which affects an estimated 90-95% of cats) and a rapid-onset opportunistic bacteria. We were told that even with surgery, Baby Blue would not be able to see from his left eye anymore and if left, could be prone to light sensitivity and further complications. The specialist recommended surgery to remove his eye to prevent any further complications.
In spite of all the car rides, vet visits, eye drops (some of them six times a day), quarantining, and cleaning, Baby Blue has remained gentle, loving, and purring.
We are asking for our community’s help to provide the best medical care for Baby Blue and for all of our cats as the cost of medical bills is becoming much more than we can handle as a new, small business.
We greatly appreciate it if you have any means at all to help support our cause, and for helping us find forever homes for these rescue cats!
