Baby Basil's NICU Medical Fund
My name is Brooke Reed. I created this GoFundMe on behalf of my sister and her husband, Alexis and Breydon Proctor, for their new born baby, Basil Ruth Proctor.
On March 14th, 2021, Alexis was at home when her water suddenly broke. She was rushed to Labor and Delivery to find out that she had gone into full labor - two months early. The doctors did their best to keep Alexis’ baby in utero for as long as possible, however due to emergency circumstances, she was induced and gave birth on March 18th, 2021.
Basil Ruth Proctor was born at 3 pounds and 13 ounces.
Immediately after birth, Basil was taken directly to the NICU for treatment. Basil has been in an incubator on consistent oxygen, monitors, and a feeding tube ever since. She has been one tough fighter and growing little by little each day.
Unfortunately, this past week, the doctors found that Basil has three holes in her heart. Two of the three holes are somewhat “common” in premature babies, however one of them is not and raises concerns. The hope is that all three holes will heal on their own. However, due to the uncertainty, Basil will most likely need a cardiologist doctor as part of her ongoing life care.
Basil is expected to be in the NICU until at least her original due date, May 12th, 2021, and possibly longer. When she is discharged, she will go home with oxygen and have consistent follow up NICU and cardiology appointments.
As the timing of Basil’s birth, as well as all of the complications that have followed, were very unexpected, the situation has left Alexis and Breydon in thousands of dollars in medical debt already, with an unforeseen amount of medical bills to come.
Alexis and Breydon also had little to no time to prepare for the homecoming of their baby. Alexis’s baby shower had to be cancelled due to the premature birth. They have not had the chance to gather most of what they need for their baby, set up a nursery, and accumulate all of the specifically needed things for a premature baby.
The reason I have created this fundraiser for Alexis, Breydon, and Basil is to help with all of the unexpected medical costs/bills that have already accumulated, and the medical costs that will continue to rise even after Basil is discharged from the NICU. The fundraiser is also to help cover costs of premature baby supplies, and anything needed for Basil to go home.
Alexis’ and Breydon’s family are doing all that they can to support them and Basil during this time, and appreciate any help that is given to them as well.
