On Halloween, my sister Cassandra unexpectedly went into labor at just 28 weeks pregnant. Doctors did everything they could to delay delivery, but despite their efforts, she had to undergo an emergency C-section.
Her sweet baby boy arrived far too soon, but he came out fighting. He is stable, but things quickly became more serious. During preparations to transfer him to a higher-level NICU, doctors discovered a partially collapsed lung and a grade 3 brain bleed. He has already needed both a blood transfusions and plasma and is need of a stronger ventilator to help him breathe.
Cassandra is recovering herself from the C-section and complications from her epidural, which required a blood patch. She’s doing her best to heal while spending as much time as possible by her baby’s side. His dad continues to work while traveling back and forth to the hospital, doing everything he can to be there for both of them.
Their baby is expected to remain in the NICU for at least three months, and the emotional and financial strain is immense. Between medical expenses, gas for daily hospital trips, meals on the go, and time away from work, they could use a little extra help during this incredibly difficult time.
If you’re able to contribute, whether through a donation, a gas card, or a meal, it would mean the world to our family. And if you can’t give financially, your prayers and support are just as appreciated.
Thank you for lifting up Cassandra, her baby, and their family during this fight
