Update 9/24th
Anson has been in the nicu nearly one month. Currently there is no end in sight as he is intubated. He is a fighter and he keeps bouncing back. He vomited blood two days ago and they are running all sorts of viral and infection blood panels as well as stopping his feeds. We are here and when we are here he does well... we are going to begin being here at night to make sure his care is consistent as he seems to go backwards right around that 7 am shift change time meaning his care might be lacking prior to shift time. Our family appreciates your shares and prayers.
Update: Anson was born with two hands severely contracted back towards his forearms at 90 degree angles, two clubbed feet that are both rockerbottoms. His right foot is twisted 120 degrees to the right towards his calf. His right hand has webbing on the back of fingers so he can not straighten them out . He also has a VSD in his heart. He had a stroke in utero that left his cerebellum severely underdeveloped. He will need therapy and surgeries over the coming years. He is being tested for syndromes right now to see if these are isolated occurrences or associated to one. His leg was also broken during the emergency C-Section. He is a FIGHTER! Kristen had 3 life saving surgeries after she was sewed back up with a cut uterine artery. After they opened her back up and sutured what they thought would stop the bleeding they sewed her back up a 2nd time. Then came the 160 heart rate and dropping blood pressure. 4 hours later and 4 surgeons later she was finally out. She is facing 6-8 weeks of recovery but doing remarkably well.
From Rebecca Kristen's Sister: For those of you who know the Sins family (Kristen, Joe, Jackson, Tucker, and Weston), you know how giving and caring they are. As musicians they prefer to give of themselves in song than ask of others, but with rising medical costs they’re reaching out to humbly for the kindness and blessings of others.
If you’re unfamiliar with their story it started shortly after Joe Sins lost his Mother and father who had been battling long illnesses earlier this year. Reeling from the travel expenses (multiple trips from Tennessee to California) the Sins found out they were due for a blessing, one they believed Beverly, Joe’s mother, may have had a hand in.
Kristen found out she was pregnant with their third son a little boy they're already calling Anson Walker, this past winter. Five months into a seemingly textbook pregnancy her doctor started noting various abnormalities. It started with a club foot diagnosis and then spiraled into numerous other possible birth defects including stunted growth, cardiac abnormalities, and muscle and brain deformities. Wanting to give their son his best chance Kristen and Joe began seeing various specialist at the insistence of their doctor. After nervously awaiting the results of various procedures, which included genetic testing and an amniocentesis, the Sins were met with bittersweet results. There was no conclusive medical answer as to what was causing Anson’s hands and feet to curl, or his cerebellum to stop growing. Devout in their faith to God the Sins never considered any other option besides giving Anson the best life they could possibly provide, no matter his ailments.
With specialist bills already piling up for the small family they’re looking to the future for what will undoubtedly be a life long relationship with doctors and specialist. Because Anson doesn’t (or as far as we know can't) move around the womb he is currently breech and is scheduled to be delivered via c-section in October. Only then will the family know what life awaits them and their new son. While the goal is high it takes into account the very immediate (birth, surgery to repair his clubbed feet, and potential cardiac proceedures) and long term costs of caring for a child that is likely to require both physical and mental assistance for a majority of his life. Because medical costs can cause strain and take away from the joyous arrival of little baby Anson the Welch and Sins family kindly ask for your assistance. Any amount however great or small would be met with the greatest amount of gratitude and love.
Specific Details for Donors:
-The doctor suspects either Hurler or Hunters Syndrome, though these are only best guesses thus far. Genetic Tests will be run when they can spare enough blood as he has had transfusions.
-Medical expenses are currently exceeding $31,000 with the Sins family currently responsible for $3,000. As with most medical costs this will increase to at least $7,000 before he's born.
- Joe will need to take time off work and travel to the hospital which is an hour away from the Sins home, the loss of income is likely to span weeks.
-Proceedures to fix Anson's immediate ailments. Currently the doctors are unsure of what can be immediately fixed. He'll likely need a proceedure to fix his clubbed feet and if possible another to fix his hands and arms, which are in a fixed, bent position. A facial surgery to fix his open mouth, large tongue may also be needed if they find them to be inabling him at birth.
