Baby Alaina Rae

My name is Melissa and I'm fundraising for my granddaughter Alaina's NICU medical bills (Sierra cauble and will Gilbert daughter). Alaina was born on September 14,2023. Her mother was considered a high-risk pregnancy and needed to be induced a month early due to low amniotic fluid levels. The first day we noticed she had a cough and were told it was normal. Alaina spent about 50 hours in the mommy baby unit with her parents before the Dr's decided that she needed to be put into the NICU because we noticed she was struggling to breathe. She has undergone a MRI, multiple chest x-rays, ct scans of lungs, lumbar puncture, swallow studies, angiogram, multiple lab tests, genetic testing. Spent 3 weeks on the cpap machine and is still on low flow oxygen with her 2 upper lobes of both lungs collapsed. and still the Dr's cannot tell us what is causing this cough and her lungs to still be collapsed. This is week 5 in the NICU and they have started her on a nebulizer with 3 different medications and are scheduled for a bronchoscopy to hopefully bring us an answer.

11/9/23 UPDATE:

Alaina had been accepted to Cincinnati children’s hospital but insurance would not allow her to go. But yesterday Chapel Hill medically accepted her. The family is praying insurance will accept this transfer and that she will finally be able to find some comfort and answers.
