Tiny But Mighty! Help Support Baby Adams
Donation protected
Peyton and Caleb are getting ready to welcome Baby Adams #2 but received some hard news…
At 33 weeks pregnant, during a routine scan, the OB caught a potential birth defect with the Baby Adams. This week, they were able to see a high-risk maternal-fetal medicine doctor in Toledo who confirmed the diagnosis of a Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia (CDH) and Duodenal Atresia. The CDH is a hole in the diaphragm. The baby’s bowel is in the chest cavity, pushing the heart to the right side. Duodenal Atresia can be caused by CDH and is a blockage of parts of the stomach. The next step is their appointment with Cincinnati Children’s next week. They will determine the severity of the case by running multiple tests, and then Peyton and Caleb will have a consult with a team of doctors the same day. Peyton will have to go and stay in Cincinnati full-time starting at 36 weeks (in 3 weeks) and then they will deliver the baby at 38 weeks. 6-8 weeks of NICU time at minimum. The baby will require extensive surgery once stable enough after birth and will be placed on life support, even for a more mild case. They are thinking just a mild case (which is what we were hoping for), but we won’t know until the appointment with Cincinnati Children’s. We will send updates and information when we can, but we ask that you be patient and send all the good vibes for Peyton, Caleb, June, and baby!
