My dad, aka "Baba," has been a cab driver in Detroit for most of my life. He's 75 years old, and still starts his day before dawn, and up until the pandemic, was ending his days after dusk. While he loves what he does, the primary reason for why he's still driving in his mid-70s is because it's his source of income.

Unfortunately, earlier in January, someone neglected to yield and crashed into my dad's taxi van, totaling the vehicle. Baba was lucky to walk out of that with just a single scratch on his head. But he is okay!
That being said—this pandemic has devastated my family financially. Baba was off the road for months, until savings depleted and he had to go back on the road despite the risk. The problem is, this accident pulls him from being able to work, and we can't get him a new van if he's not making money! The catch-22 is too stressful on us all.

I hate doing this. Truly. But who knows when Congress will get us the meaningful relief we need, and I am not smart enough to understand this GameStop stuff. We need at least $10K to help cover the costs of the van. We've already spent so much just getting new registration, etc. And he's put down a small down payment, what we could afford so far. But obviously, we're still short.
My dad is a really good person. He is a proud Socialist, and the best grandpa.
Here's hoping love and solidarity will come through for Baba!
