On Sunday 9th March 2025, our friend and colleague Martina and her partner Adam's, beautiful daughter Robin, was born sleeping. This has been an incredibly difficult time for Martina, Adam and Robins brave big brother, Alex. Martina and her family have valued all of the love and support that has been shown to them, albeit, it has been apparent that there is a lack of awareness and support around baby loss. The family are keen to raise awareness about baby loss and we would like to raise funds to support one of the services, who have supported the family, Held In Our Hearts.
As a team, on the 13th September, we are going to walk from Glasgow to Balloch, approximately 25 miles, with Robin in our hearts. We would be grateful if you could help us to fundraise, to raise awareness and to support other families who have sadly experienced baby loss.
“Held In Our Hearts are a Scottish charity providing baby loss counselling and support to families, with over 40 years’ experience of offering compassionate bereavement care in the community. Through our Hospital to Home service, peer support, specialized bereavement counselling and community support groups we offer free bespoke and flexible compassionate care to anyone grieving the loss of a baby, child, or infant, ensuring no one is alone during this devastating time. Our peer supporters have lived experience of loss and give compassionate and flexible care in person, online, text, email and by telephone. Our doors and hearts are always open to anyone following the death of a precious baby. As our services continue to grow so do our values of empathy, connection, and love. Our values will always remain at the heart of everything we do.
Why we do what we do:
• With 1 in 4 pregnancies ending in loss and four babies stillborn each week in Scotland, the need for our services is profound. While we cannot prevent the death of a baby, with your support, we can ensure that no one must walk alone after such a heartbreaking loss.
• We believe that compassionate bereavement support should be accessible to all, without financial or time constraint.
• Our specialist support and community enhance bereaved parents' health and mental well-being, empowering them to overcome feelings of isolation and loneliness after the trauma of baby loss.
• Our support helps bereaved parents emotionally connect with their current children and bond with future pregnancies and babies.
• Additionally, our services create a positive ripple effect on their wider family, friends, and colleagues.
• Through collaboration and partnership Held In Our Hearts support health care professionals and other organisations across Scotland by providing bereavement training.
• Delivering workplace training to support bereaved parents return to work and to help employers understand the impact of baby loss.”
Here’s how your support makes a difference:
