Help Kevin Shanahan Fight Multiple Myeloma

We (Jake Shanahan, Jim Duffy, Bill Hogan, & Bonnie Gilbert) are organizing this fundraiser on behalf of our father, best friend, and brother-in-law, Kevin Shanahan.

First and foremost, Kevin and his family would like to thank all the families and friends who have sent their love, offered help and support, as well as continuing to check in during these difficult times. They are grateful for your thoughts and prayers as Kevin's journey to fight cancer begins.

For those of you who know Kevin, you know what a blessing he is to have in your life. He is a man who exudes positivity, laughter, and love for his family and friends. Whether it’s helping out a buddy in need or going to his grandkid’s softball game, Kevin is always there for his family and friends. Now it’s time we are there for him.

Our friend Kevin has recently been diagnosed with multiple myeloma (blood cancer). Tuesday, July 6, 2021 Kevin was at home, walking up the stairs carrying some laundry. Suddenly, he felt a pop in his left hip and fell to the ground. His family helped him get up the stairs and into the car. Once at the hospital, they performed multiple scans and realized there was a lot more going on than just a fractured hip. Kevin was showing signs of bone cancer in his shoulders, arms, sternum, low back, hips, and knees. That Friday, Kevin underwent a bone marrow biopsy, and the cancer was confirmed. Unable to repair the hip with the cancer present, Kevin was released from the hospital the next day. As family and friends welcomed him home with love, warm hugs, and homemade dishes, his medical team began to develop a plan of care. Kevin will soon start his first treatment of pills. The treatment he really needs is a stem cell transplant, but unfortunately is not financially feasible for him and his family at this time.

This fundraiser was created to help with finances for Kevin’s medical bills and treatments. It is our hope to achieve this goal in an effort to decrease the family’s financial burden and ease the stress that goes hand in hand with a battle like this. We would love to get Kevin the treatment he truly needs so he can begin his healing journey.

We are also asking for your prayers. We pray for peace and comfort for Kevin in his journey. We pray for wisdom as his medical team guides Kevin through his plan of care. And we pray that Kevin be healed and receive enduring strength.
