“Every person is defined by the communities she belongs to.” - Orson Scott Card. Sensei Kaela Olson has devoted her life to creating a community where we can learn discipline, safety, & physical wellbeing. She’s spent countless hours with our children teaching them to be good community members and to give back to those who need our help. Today our Sensei Kaela needs some extra support for her own family. Thursday June 29, 2023, Jamie Olson went in for a scheduled surgery to repair some damage to his colon. Unfortunately the surgeon discovered that the damage & inflammation in Jamie’s abdomen was beyond repair and he would need to be transferred to Brigham & Women’s Hospital in Boston. Over the next few days his condition continued to deteriorate, septic shock took over, and he was finally transferred on Sunday July 2. On Monday Jamie went into emergency surgery for a full colectomy and to insert drains for all of the infected fluid in his abdomen. Fast forward to today, Jamie is out of septic shock, awake, and getting a little stronger every day. He is still considered to be in sepsis and his body is cooperating with antibiotics. Jamie is in the ICU, on IV nutrition to gain some strength, and is only allowed Kaela as a visitor. The road ahead will be long and bumpy. We’re unsure how long Jamie will stay at Brigham & Women’s Hospital and what kind of care he will require at home. The medical bills will continue to pile up along with typical family expenses. This is why I’m calling on our community to support the Olson Family. Here are some different ways you can help: 1. Donate any amount you can here. These proceeds will go directly to Kaela & Jamie to help them with the many costs they will incur over this time. 2. Gift Cards to grocery stores like Whole Foods & Trader Joe’s where Kaela shops 3. Gift Card for Hilton properties (where Kaela has been staying in Boston) To put everyone’s mind at ease, Calista & Noah are doing well with their Gaga, Amy Dionne. Kaela appreciates all of the offers to help care for them, but at this time it’s best to keep them in one place with one consistent caregiver. This isn’t Amy’s first rodeo with twins and she’s doing great! Cali & Fenway are also being cared for by friends and they’re living their best doggy lives. Thank you for reading through all of this. I will continue to update this page to keep everyone informed of Jamie’s progress.
